Allegation of Research Misconduct
Jurnal Triton, published by Politeknik Pembangunan Pertanian Manokwari, is committed to upholding the highest standards of research integrity, academic honesty, transparency, and ethical scholarly publishing. The journal takes all allegations of research misconduct seriously and is committed to handling such allegations fairly, confidentially, objectively, and promptly in accordance with established publication ethics principles.
Research misconduct includes, but is not limited to, fabrication or falsification of research data, plagiarism, inappropriate image manipulation, duplicate or redundant publication, undisclosed conflicts of interest, unethical research practices, improper authorship, citation manipulation, and other actions that compromise the reliability or integrity of scholarly research. Allegations may concern manuscripts under review, accepted articles, or articles that have already been published.
Submission of Allegations
Allegations of research misconduct may be submitted to the Editor-in-Chief or the editorial office of Jurnal Triton by authors, reviewers, readers, researchers, institutions, or other concerned parties. Reports should include sufficient information and supporting evidence to enable a preliminary assessment. Allegations should be made in good faith and should not be used to harass, intimidate, or unfairly damage the reputation of authors or other individuals.
Jurnal Triton will acknowledge and assess reports in a timely manner, subject to the availability of sufficient information and the circumstances of each case. The identity of the complainant will be protected to the extent reasonably possible and consistent with a fair investigation.
Preliminary Assessment and Investigation
Upon receiving an allegation, the editorial team will conduct a preliminary assessment to determine whether the concern falls within the journal's responsibilities and whether sufficient evidence exists to justify further action. The assessment will consider the nature of the allegation, the available documentation, the reliability of the evidence, and the potential impact on the integrity of the research record.
Where appropriate, the Editor-in-Chief may consult independent experts, relevant editorial board members, or the authors' affiliated institutions. Individuals with actual or potential conflicts of interest will not participate in decisions concerning the case.
The authors concerned will normally be informed of the allegation and given a reasonable opportunity to respond. The journal will evaluate the evidence impartially and will not presume misconduct solely on the basis of an unverified allegation, an automated similarity score, or an AI-detection result.
For cases involving complex research practices, institutional responsibilities, or matters requiring access to original research records, Jurnal Triton may refer the case to the relevant institution or other competent authority for further investigation. The journal reserves the right to suspend editorial processing or publication while a serious allegation is being assessed.
Editorial Actions
Depending on the findings and the seriousness of the case, Jurnal Triton may take one or more of the following actions:
-
Request additional information, original data, research records, or clarification from the authors.
-
Require corrections, revisions, or additional disclosures where the issue can be appropriately resolved.
-
Reject a submitted manuscript if the evidence establishes serious ethical or scientific deficiencies.
-
Issue a correction, expression of concern, or retraction for a published article, as appropriate to the circumstances.
-
Notify the authors' affiliated institutions, research funders, or other relevant authorities when warranted.
-
Restrict further editorial processing of submissions where justified by established findings and applicable journal policies.
Any editorial action will be proportionate to the nature of the misconduct and the strength of the available evidence. Decisions concerning published articles will be communicated transparently, with an appropriate explanation and clear links to the affected publication where applicable.
Confidentiality and Protection Against Retaliation
Jurnal Triton will handle allegations and related documentation confidentially to the extent possible. Information will be shared only with individuals who need it to assess or resolve the matter, subject to applicable legal, institutional, and publication ethics requirements.
The journal does not tolerate retaliation against individuals who raise concerns in good faith or participate in an investigation. At the same time, knowingly false or malicious allegations may be addressed in accordance with applicable institutional procedures and relevant policies.
Appeals and Institutional Cooperation
Authors or other directly affected parties may submit a reasoned appeal against an editorial decision concerning an allegation of research misconduct. Appeals must include relevant supporting information and will be reviewed by an editor or designated representative who was not materially involved in the original decision, wherever practicable.
Jurnal Triton will cooperate with authors' institutions, research organizations, funders, and other competent bodies when necessary to establish the facts and protect the integrity of the scholarly record. The journal recognizes that institutions are generally responsible for conducting formal investigations into research misconduct, while the journal is responsible for taking appropriate editorial action concerning manuscripts and published articles.
Commitment to Research Integrity
Through this policy, Jurnal Triton seeks to maintain public trust in scholarly communication, protect the credibility of published research, and promote responsible research practices. All allegations of research misconduct will be addressed with due process, impartiality, confidentiality, and respect for the rights and responsibilities of all parties involved.
This policy applies to all manuscripts submitted to Jurnal Triton and all articles published by the journal. It will be implemented consistently with the journal's publication ethics, plagiarism policy, authorship criteria, conflict of interest policy, and correction and retraction procedures.
