Kambing lokal Sulawesi Selatan merupakan hasil persilangan antara kambing kacang dan kambing jawa randu, berkembang biak pada beberapa kabupaten/kota di provinsi ini yang dipelihara secara semi intensif. Perkembangan dan perkawinan secera alami tidak terlepas dari ancaman penularan penyakit zoonosis, yang potensial menular ke manusia, selain mengakibatkan gangguan reproduksi, salah satunya adalah toxoplasmosis. Surveilans serologis telah dilakukan oleh Balai Besar Veteriner Maros pada kambing lokal Sulawesi Selatan. Tujuan surveilans adalah mengetahui seroprevalensi toxoplasmosis di beberapa kabupaten/kota dan Provinsi Sulawesi Selatan. Bahan yang digunakan untuk pengujian serologis berupa sampel serum kambing yang diperoleh dari 17 desa, 15 kecamatan di 5 kabupaten/kota, Sidrap, Pare-Pare, Maros, Makassar dan Jeneponto. Sebanyak 1.106 sampel serum dari lima kabupaten telah diuji secara serologis. Sampel diperoleh secara sampling sedangkan metode pengujian serologis dilakukan dengan menggunakan ELISA. Hasil surveilans menunjukkan seroprevalensi Toxoplasmosis pada kambing lokal di Sidrap sebesar 12,40%, Pare-pare 77,03%, Maros 22,58%, Makassar 47,33% dan Jeneponto 35,68%. Seroprevalensi toxoplasmosis pada kambing di Sulawesi Selatan sebesar 27,85%, dengan seroprevalensi terbesar terdapat di Kabupaten Pare-Pare, disusul Makassar, Jeneponto. Maros dan Sidrap.
